Check Photo Metadata: Free Client-Side EXIF Viewer
Last reviewed: September 16, 2026
Inspect the exact copy you intend to publish
Before uploading a photo to a public website, social media profile, or sending it as an attachment, it is prudent to check what data the file exposes. CleanMyPhoto provides an instant, private EXIF inspector that runs locally on your computer or smartphone.
When you select a picture, the inspector parses the file header and presents all detected fields in a clear, categorized view. You can see immediately whether the photo reveals your geographical location, camera hardware serial numbers, or high-precision timestamps.
Understanding inspection results
If the scanner reports that no GPS metadata was found, it means no standardized EXIF GPS tags were detected in the file headers. This is common when images have already been exported through privacy-conscious editors or web optimizers.
However, an empty metadata scan does not guarantee absolute privacy. The visual image itself might still display location clues such as landmark silhouettes, street names, business storefronts, or visible barcode labels. Combine metadata inspection with visual auditing.
Privacy guarantee during inspection
Your file is never uploaded to our servers or any cloud service during inspection. The reading operation takes place in your browser memory using the FileReader API. Once you close the tab or reset the tool, the in-memory object references are immediately cleared.
