What hidden data do my photos carry?
Every photo taken with a smartphone or camera can contain hidden data including GPS coordinates accurate to 3 meters, exact date and time, camera make and model, lens information and the software used to edit it. This is called EXIF metadata and anyone who receives your original photo can read it.
How do I remove hidden data from a photo?
Drop your photo into Clean My Photo. We will scan it and show you everything we find, including location, timestamps, device info and AI tags. Then click "Clean my photo" to create a new copy with all hidden data removed. Everything runs in your browser and your photo is never uploaded.
Can someone find where I live from a photo I shared?
Yes. If location services are enabled on your phone, every photo you take may contain exact GPS coordinates. Sharing that photo via email, Telegram, Google Drive or AirDrop keeps this data intact. Anyone who receives the file can see exactly where you were.
Does Instagram remove hidden photo data?
Yes. Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter) and WhatsApp remove most hidden data when you upload. However, email attachments, Telegram file shares, Google Drive, Dropbox and iMessage do not. Your GPS and device info stay completely visible through these channels.
What are AI tags and content credentials in photos?
AI-generated or AI-edited images often carry hidden tags called C2PA content credentials. These record which AI tools were used to create or modify the image. Clean My Photo can detect these tags and remove them when you create a clean copy.
Does Clean My Photo upload my photos?
No. Everything is processed in your browser using local code. Your images, the data we find and your results are never sent to any server. There is no account, no cookies and no tracking.
Can I remove AI watermarks from images?
Clean My Photo re-encodes your image locally, which removes embedded AI tags including C2PA content credentials and generation signatures. Note that statistical watermarks baked into pixels (like SynthID) may survive re-encoding.
